The Bay Area’s own Legoland Discovery Center is now open, and, my fellow blockheads, there are some things you should know. On top of its interactive Lego ride and 4D theater with new Lego Movie inspired shorts, there are VR races, freeform building stations with master builders on site, an interactive pirate ship, and even a NINJAGO “Laser Maze.” But all that is merely prelude to Miniland, the 1,000,000-block recreation of the Bay Area complete with functioning BART cars, Basilica of St. Joseph, and San Jose City Hall Rotunda. Word is rent for a 1×1 brick apartment has now reached $3,800.

It’s practically a universal truth: working out sucks. Well… most of the time. If you’re running on a treadmill or pumping iron next to sweaty strangers, of course exercise is going to feel more like a chore than recreation. Then there’s climbing. The Studio Climbing gym gives members a place to socialize, work in teams or alone, and solve fun challenges (it takes time figuring out how to get up that wall). Making his debut first as a writer and then as a cast member on Saturday Night Live over 30 years ago, Rob Schneider is one of those Hollywood enigmas that’s done it all but can’t stop doing more. He’s had a role in more than 40 films since the early ’90s, starring as the hapless Deuce Bigalow, a fish tank cleaner-turned-male prostitute in 1999. His latest venture is a TV show called Real Rob. Schneider returns to his standup comedy roots with a new routine that’s packed full of his characteristic voices and exaggerated mannerisms.

California’s Great America is offering discounted tickets to those  sporting garish holiday garments. So, this is kind of … different. A collective of artists known as RadioEE, in association with the Montalvo Arts Center, will be broadcasting a live transmission from a semi-autonomous vehicle (self-driving car) as it cruises around the Bay Area over the course of two days. Narration in English, Spanish and Vietnamese will explore how autopilot technology might change how we interact with our world and how we will build and traverse our urban environment. To take a ride-along, just go to radioee.net on Thursday and Friday. It’s not every day you get to experience the future.

This week’s Thursday Night Football is a Bay Area battle royale, as the Raiders go head-to-head with the Niners at Levi’s Stadium. It hasn’t been a great year for either organization. Both teams have only one win each and are coming off yet another loss. While the playa dust is still settling on this year’s Burning Man, the South Bay Regional Burners group will formally congratulate this year’s “virgins,” who survived their first year among the sparkle ponies and shirt cockers of Black Rock City. The mystical world of wizards, potions and magic spells materializes on the streets of San Jose as the Wizards Assemble Pub Crawl comes to town.
