Tha Doggfather, himself, Snoop Dogg, is coming to San Jose next Friday, Oct. 10, to preside over what is sure to be a hazier-than-usual party at downtown night club, Studio 8.

Snoop will host the event, which will feature local DJs Big Von and Maniakal as well as a performance from SF-based rapper Yung Spitta. According to a representative from the club, Snoop will even perform a few songs himself.

Studio 8 kicked off a weekend full of partying on Friday to celebrate its reopening with DJ Pauly D. Metro photographer Aron Cooperman was on the scene to catch the former Jersey Shore reality star in action.

Former porn star Jenna Jameson will help christen the recently remodeled space at Studio 8 this weekend as the downtown San Jose club celebrates its grand reopening.

The club hasn’t announced what Jameson will be doing at the club event, but she’s due for a little R&R after her legal drama earlier this week in Southern California.

James earned the title “Queen of Porn” after her reign over the industry from the mid-90s to the early 00s. By 2005, she was worth an estimated $30 million with her company ClubJenna. She has since retired to raise her family.

Jameson, who apparently is a regular visitor to the Bay Area, told SF Station last year that she spends most of her time in San Jose when she visits: “I actually do go to the Pink Poodle quite a bit,” she said.

She also gave a shout out to the club last July in a tweet: “At the pink poodle… Old school roots.”

Jameson’s appearance will follow a DJ set from Pauly D, of Jersey Shore Fame, in town Friday to kick off the full weekend of partying. Pauly D. somehow managed to score a hit bigger than his hair with this track last year:

LA-based DJ/producer Felli Fell, who’s production work includes tracks with Lil Jon, 50 Cent, Chris Brown and Akon, made the trip up to San Jose on Friday for a set at Studio 8.

Turntablism has truly taken a turn for the weird when it’s the basis for a Jersey Shore spinoff. And yet, that’s exactly what’s happening with The Pauly D Project, in which MTV took the only vaguely likable member of the Shore cast and decided to create another reality show around his attempt to become a super-famous DJ.

Pointless, yes, since he is already a superfamous TV star, but nonetheless it’s provided a pop-culture springboard for his pals like Jason Craig, a.k.a. JROC. Craig is now doing personal appearances like his gig at Studio 8 on Friday.

The thing is, whatever you think of his skills, Pauly D is at least known as a DJ. JROC is known as a marketing executive. He produces big Vegas parties and knows all the hot spots—that’s what got him in with Pauly D in the first place. (Canadians who may have somehow managed to avoid addiction to Jersey Shore and its tentacle-like hold on pop culture can rest assured I am not talking about their J-Roc, an accomplished DJ of the ghetto-funk school.) So what exactly is JROC going to do at Studio 8? Will he spin a set, as some of the other Jersey Shorers have done on their stops in San Jose? Is there some actual artistic ambition under that perma-shadow? Stay tuned.

Is the Oakland-based rapper Kreayshawn an Internet conspiracy or an absurdist comment on the state of popular culture? With a penchant for warped beats, chirpy hooks, and colorful baubles that combine Harajuku with the hood, the 22-year-old born Natassia Zolot has confounded the same Internet that gave birth to her. She performs Saturday at Studio 8’s Anniversary Party.

The surrealist asexual swagger that she traffics in has drawn lame comparisons to Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, even Lady Gaga. She also shares the criticism that she’s being “weird for weirdness’s sake,” and if that’s not enough—alert the authorities—she’s white.

In the video for “Gucci Gucci,” a wonky, fiendish rebuttal to exhausted brand names and simple minds, Kreayshawn and her crew of delinquent white girls strut through West Hollywood, pointing accusingly and mouthing cuss words. Adorned in what can only be called ‘cartoon couture,’ Kreayshawn dazzles in a Minnie Mouse headband and a blinged-out Indian head hanging from a waist-length chain. Her waif in crime, ‘Lil Debbie,’ bops in the foreground wearing a jean jacket and thick, square glasses—prescription unlikely. It’s as if someone animated the entire line of Polly Pocket and fed them a steady diet of hallucinogens and rap music.

But it’s not her fashion sense, or senselessness, that’s got the world in a fix. Her rap sheet reads thusly: an accomplice, Vanessa “V-Nasty” Reece, liberally peppers sentences with” the N-word.” Nude photos of a supposedly underage Kreayshawn were leaked on the Internet, right after a very public and very comic spat with heavyset rap-don Rick Ross. Also did we mention she’s white?

The thing is: Kreayshawn isn’t embarking on a quest to’save hip hop. It’s not clear if that’s even her genre. Hyper-referential, flippant and a little darling, it’s ridiculous to watch as hip-hop purists launch a series of missives against what’s really just hyphy junior—unthinking sure, but fun, dammit, fun. Cindi Lauper fun.

By day, he’s Lohrasp Kansara, model and actor on TV series like Law & Order, Damages and Blue Bloods. By night, he’s DJ L, who spent last year spinning on MTV and BET, along with live gigs in New York, St. Martin, Dubai, London, Paris, Mumbai and Kingston.

This guy has taken celebrity DJing to the next level—like the rest of them, he’s all about getting a pic with Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington or Lil Wayne that he can throw up on the website for cred. But thanks to his career in front of the camera and as the poster boy for Most Official Seven denim and T.I.’s Akoo clothing line, he’s also the celebrity that other DJs want in their pictures.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that he should come to embody the international-DJ craze—born of Indian descent in Geneva, he moved to this country in his teens to pursue an NBA career. Instead he ended up preparing for his budding career as a media mogul, graduating in three years from SUNY Purchase with a 4.0 in Economics. When he started getting high-profile clients as a DJ—Madonna, Leonardo DiCaprio and even the NBA he once dreamed of playing for—he turned it into a full-time career, banking on his versatility behind the turntable rather than technical tricks.
