No one plays Chopin quite like Nikolay Khozyainov. The 29 year old piano prodigy debuted at Moscow Conservatory at the tender age of seven, and in 2010, he became the youngest finalist in the Fryderyk Chopin Competition. This year, Khozyainov performed at the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa in Mallorca, where Chopin spent an ascetic winter and wrote some legendary compositions. San Joseans, however, need not sequester themselves in a freezing monk’s cell to enjoy these masterpieces: simply tune in to the Steinway Society’s streams this weekend.

There’s nothing like classical orchestral piano compositions to ease us into the autumnal season. This weekend, Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen performs selections from his growing discography in four virtual performances for Bay Area fans. For this year’s Steinway Society season, Pohjonen will draw from Bach’s “Goldberg Variations,” with his musical interpretations often characterized as intense, thoughtful and fearless. Tune in to listen to the talented pianist, who’s been described as “one of the brightest young instrumental talents to emerge from Finland today.”

From bread baking to gardening, all kinds of skills were perfected over the pandemic. Award-winning pianist Clarie Huangci, however, has been honing her craft since she was just nine years old. The youngest participant to ever receive Second Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Huangci has won first prizes for her performances all around the globe. After years of performance with international orchestras in Europe, Asia and North America, she hosts an intimate and virtual showcase of Bach, Beethoven and Schubert over four evenings, in partnership with the Bay Area’s Steinway Society.
