Downtown Sunnyvale can be a bit unassuming, but this Friday the block will be on fire. Starting at 10pm, LA-based (and world-renowned) DJ Slushii will be spinning some of his hottest mixes well into the early morning—neon-decked, club-packing dubsteppers like “Dear Me,” Rocket League theme song “All I Need,” and the twinkling Marshmello collab “Twinbow.” The 24-year-old DJ has been on the scene since 2016, and quickly rose in the EDM world due to his sparkling, sugary mixes and high profile collaborations. The club requires all guests wear masks indoors, but bottle service is available for those who want to keep social distance from the dancefloor.

Though it was released well over a decade ago, Mario’s 2007 R&B pop hit ‘Let Me Love You’ has proven itself timeless. Maybe it’s the Rhodes piano, trembling as it lays out the chords. Maybe it’s the melancholy sample, echoing like a wordless cry of the heart. Or maybe it’s Mario’s lyrics, the kind that would be familiar to any lovers throughout human history, like ‘your true beauty’s description looks so good that it hurts.’ Whatever it is, there’s a reason it went #1. Since the ‘00s, Mario has regularly appeared in film & TV, and comes to Sunnyvale in anticipation of his sixth album.

Ever since 2016, when JVNA burst onto the EDM scene with a stirring and emotional cover of “Dearly Beloved” from PS2 classic Kingdom Hearts, the LA producer has been blurring the lines between dance music, video game culture and pure emotional outpouring. You don’t have to be a gamer to get caught up in these swelling pianos and sudden bass drops, but with covers of tracks from Maple Story and NieR:Automata (and Kingdom Hearts), it probably doesn’t hurt. The young producer and singer recently completed her highly anticipated first album, but first stops in Sunnyvale for a night of pure dance release.

DJ Snake once commented that 4B was the “next big thing” in EDM, and the reptile has a point. 4B’s massive dance tracks gather and swell ominously, then explode into white hot dubstep freakouts. When the beat finally drops in 2015 hit “Pop Dat,” it slams with the same lunatic intensity as DJ Snake’s own “Turn Down For What,” jagged melodies popping and locking all over the cavernous subs. The Jersey club producer is one of the earliest performers to drop in at the newly reopened Pure Nightclub in Sunnyvale, who also recently opened a club called (wait for it) YOLO.

The mysterious, balaclava-sporting Malaa brings his ambiguous identity and hard-hitting ghetto house tunes to Sunnyvale. The producer and DJ has managed to keep his given name under wraps for five years, even as his stature has grown. Some suspect Malaa is the singular name of multiple big-name selectors, including DJ Snake, Tchami and Mercer. One thing is for sure, Malaa’s tunes are heavy. Spinning classic Dirty South textures such as Lil Wayne and Juvenile’s “Bling Bling” together with spartan four-on-the-floor beats that are as infectious as they are dirty, whoever Malaa is, he—or they—know how to rock a dance floor.

Hot off the release of his two-track Awakening EP, Saymyname rolls through Murphy Avenue for what’s sure to be a highly energetic set. Known to many in the industry as the godfather of hardtrap, the Los Angeles-bred producer has the support of some of the biggest names in heavy-hitting EDM—including DJ Snake and Skrillex. It’s easy to understand why. Saymyname’s penchant is for bouncing between rousing, anthemic melodies and dissonant, screeching drops. He’s come a long way since spinning up a trap remix of the Barney theme song on a lark back in 2013.

Sunnyvale is about to get a healthy dose of prog and deep house when 3LAU returns to Pure. The Las Vegas producer is known not only for his original music and remixes, but also as the founder of Our Music Festival and Blume—a not-for-profit dance music label dedicated to raising money for educational initiatives. His set is likely to include hits such as “How You Love Me,” “Is It Love,” “Fire,” “On My Mind” and “Hot Water,” as well as cuts from his 2018 debut album Ultraviolet.

Born in a small seaport town in Connecticut, 28-year-old electronic music producer and DJ Audien has been making music since 2008. He got his first big break 2012 when he was featured on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance compilation and Above & Beyond’s 2012 EDC set. He topped the Billboard dance charts in 2015 with the hit single “Insomnia,” and has been selling out major venues and headlining EDM festivals since. He brings his unique, progressive trance sound to Pure Nightclub as he tours behind his debut full-length studio album, Escapism.

Good Times Ahead (also known as GTA) is the project of house-DJ duo Julio Mejia and Matt Toth. They’ve racked up millions of plays on streaming platforms and toured with the likes of Tiesto, Calvin Harris and Rihanna, selling out shows across the world. Their self-titled 2016 album included features from rappers Vince Staples and Iamsu! Born and raised in Miami, the pair have been spinning since 2010, moving from party-rocking college ragers to achieving commercial success through collaborations with artists such as Martin Solvieg, Diplo and Rick Ross.

DJ and producer Erick Orrosquieta, better known by his stage name Deorro, has been spinning up progressive house and trap bangers for well over a decade. Currently signed to Ultra, the recording and production company behind Florida’s annual EDM party, the Ultra Music Festival, he is in good company: He counts Steve Aoki, Sofi Tukker, Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 as labelmates. He hasn’t dropped a proper full-length since his 2017 album, Good Evening, but his string of singles—30 since 2013—are proof of his work ethic. He comes to Sunnyvale on the heels of his latest loosie, “All This Time.”
