The televised improv comedy show where “everything’s made up and the points don’t matter” launched thousands of community improv groups back in the early 2000s, when it was a ratings behemoth for ABC. After nearly a decade off air, Whose Line is it Anyway? was revived by the CW and is now hitting the road with a series of unscripted performances based on audience participation and featuring show mainstays Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Jeff B. Davis, Joel Murray… and maybe even you.

After a serious illness that sidelined him for a while, and a little campaigning for Beto O’Rourke in Texas, Willie is on the road again—this time with his family, including his wife, sister and two sons in a rollicking Nelson family band. He’s lived to see the widespread legalization of his favorite herb, but the 85-year-old music icon has mortality on his mind. One of his most performed songs nowadays is “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die.” We will, Willie. We certainly will.

Hasan Minhaj fights discrimination the way he knows best—with jokes. Senior correspondent for The Daily Show, Minhaj brings his latest stand-up set to the Flint Center. The comedian is known primarily for observational comedy and woke political satire. Minhaj was selected as the featured performer at the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, cracking jokes about alternative facts and Donald Trump. Minhaj’s 2017 Netflix special, Homecoming King, features jokes about his personal life, family and growing up as an Indian-American Muslim.

Iranian pop star and actor Farzad Farzin has faced many setbacks in his career, but he isn’t letting that stop him. After leaving his former band, Corouz Group, to pursue a solo career, he found himself fighting for the rights of his music and facing an uphill battle against continued leaks. His eclectic sound features traditional Persian melodies and pop-oriented arrangements. He’s scored chart-topping hits in Europe, and was recognized with an award from Iran’s Musicema Awards for best live performance. (SM)

Before he starred as the hunky foil to his then-wife—the eye-rolling and uber-blonde Jessica Simpson—on the fascinating mid-2000s pop-culture artifact known as Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, you may recall that Nick Lachey was the beefiest quarter of 98 Degrees. His quartet of blue-eyed soulsters continue to draw crowds with their sticky four-part harmonies and (mostly) chiseled chins, especially when they are singing Christmas tunes. But we’re just deflecting with snark. “The Hardest Thing” was one of the first jams we ever slow-danced to in junior high. That’s gotta be worth something.

Imagine doo-wop’s comedic Coasters switched their electric guitars for flugelhorns and theremins and you’re getting close to understanding what this California Pops Orchestra program is all about. In between turns at the rostrum, pops maestro Kim Venaas dishes out deadpan one-liners—like Mitch Hedberg in a tux. The orchestra, along with special guest vocalist Carly Honfi, plan to deliver parodies like the “Shagadelic Suite”—from the late-’90s spy-flick spoof Austin Powers—and their famous “Concerto to End All Concertos,” a ridiculously epic number. Additionally, the pops repertoire includes Broadway musicals, television themes, Hollywood scores and big band tunes.
