This event represents the best that the Bay Area jazz world has to offer. Bandleader Ray Brown and exuberant vocalist Allegra Bandy combine forces in this afternoon big band concert at Stanford, showcasing the Great American Songbook. Guest pianist Eddie Mendenhall takes the stage with the Stanford Jazz Workshop Alumni Big Band, featuring guitarist Todd Kimball and more than a dozen horns swinging to beloved old standards. Brown deftly moves around the pieces—which include stud instrumentalists like Howard Cespedes and Marcus Wolf—to create small combos and brings them all together again for a big sound.
