It may be hard to remember, but there was a time before Kanye went all Kanye—back before Quavo, Offset and Takeoff jacked the Migos flow from Three 6 Mafia and emcees were more focused on pouring Cristal than pouring up fours. This Friday, the Echo Flex party celebrates the trilling high hats of Juvenile, the sing-rapping of Outkast and Nelly, and Tha Carter-era Weezy. Given the state of the world and the dour, dark production currently en vogue, it will be truly refreshing to hear the chopped-up soul of Late Registration and the gleeful, neon-trucker-hat tones of N.E.R.D.
